Hi All, I’m sorry but I disagree with all this splitting up into small groups for this and that, we have a forum and a good web site thanks to those that have provided it. What are we trying to prove here, that by making ourselves spread over a wider area we can bitch about this and that? Sorry I do not get the point, we are a small community as it is, I’m all in favour of promoting our sport, but having multiple points of contact/discussion is just going to drive people into clicky groups…count me out.

Regards Will Greenwood.

The HGCOMPS mailing serves it purpose for the 50-80 (?) pilots who need
to communicate about the BOS, etc ‘comps’ scene. The NXCL forum would be
for those interested in the pursuit of XC flying, and whilst there is
some cross over, I can envisage members from both groups not always
being interested in the other, so it makes sense to separate.

The only complaint I have a about the tool is the advertising on the
right & bottom of page (~20% ad space), but lets see how it goes. For
the RW forum we’ve been using Mark Leavesly’s forum tool for a few years
now and it works well with only a subtle 3% of ad space in the top left.

Well thats the first bit of bitching over with.!

So what Clicky group are you a member of,?

I fully understand your point but the only interaction I have the the HG groups is through these e mails.

From what interaction I have just had with this web site, it is realy easy to use, unlike the others that I have tried and been quicky frustrated with…

I may find some problems with it in the future but nothing yet..

I used to use freinds reunited but that was quickly replaced with facebook, this site at first glance is just as easy to use as facebook….

Sorry will, it gets my vote until I see something better..

Regards

Wayne Thompson.

I too worry about there not being a single point of contact like there is now and folks who are only on one form of communicationwill miss stuff, and then it become a job of work forsomebodyto be sure important stuff is sent out by different mediums.
One solution might be for there to be a summary list of the postings on such a furum, sent to this list every few days.
Often such forums have an option to have a summary list of posts sent to your registered email address with hot links to click through into the forum for what catches your eye.
In the long term a forum might work beter than a simple mailing list, as all the past posts on a subject can be searched and a moderator can make important stuff into a "sticky" so it always appears at the top of the forum etc.

I use such forums to discuss technical stuff for my job and other interests. They work really well for geting a quick answer from a well versed geek for that sort of thing.

However unless there are a lot of regular posters then forums just do not work as a means of communication, they just die, and a simple mailing list is superior.
