I can't do much of a narrative on this comp, because i was chasing all over the place looking after the club class boys. Perhaps someone else can oblige?
The only thing that i am sure of is that there were some excellent briefings on the hill…

Although I understand that some tasks called caused an adverse reaction for some.

Time to catch up, now that i have decent access to the interweb.
But first a personal note.
By going to the Mid Wales comp, and being chucked in the deep end, I have learnt so much, and now have a far better understanding how things work.
I now know how that blasted scoring programme works, and how all the different comps are interlinked.
I have to admit i got a bit stressed out on the Saturday night, Fortunately i had a bit of help in various ways, and i feel they must be mentioned.
Richard Hunt: for helping so much with sorting out the GPS driver problems, and getting them installed, whilst i went and had a calm down and fag.
Paul and Chris Whatley for kindly getting me some food so i could eat.
Dave Bluett for pointing me in the right direction a few time, without throwing a wobbly.
And finally… All the club class guys for bearing with me, and having lots of patience.
If anyone had asked me if i would do this again on the Sunday morning, i think i might of told them to go forth and Multiply.
Once the problems had been sorted, it wasn't to bad at all. In fact, i do believe i enjoyed it all :-)
The best bit? Has to be said. The happy smiley faces of people who got to goal. Although i did think that close quarter, semi naked, dancing in the field, whilst being watched but bemused farmers with families was a bit much.
Moving on ….

More to come shortly.
Last day tomorrow, and it looks like another task will be called.
Dave Bluett is in the Powis Arms uploading new pilots gps waypoints and enjoying a jar in good company.
Weather is looking rather promising.

Luke C has set up a Community for UK hang glider pilots. Still in its infancy, a number of BOS pilots have signed up to it.
You can find it Here

Steve leeman has created a *The UK Hang-Gliding Shack** a Face Book group for interested parties
General chit chat about hang-gliding in the UK and abroad. Will also be logging any XC flights and keeping a diary on the British Hang-gliding Series Competition. I am a member of the Notts Aerotow Club and Derbyshire Soaring Club. I have been flying for 9 years and currently fly a Moyes Litespeed 4 with Woody Valley Tenax Harness. My longest flight in the UK was 159km in 2006. I'm hoping to crack 162km (100miles) very soon!!

A number of problems seem to have arisen with Pilot GPS devices and the Scoring Program Interface (GPSDUMP).
These problems make life difficult for all concerned, and stress levels rise at an exponential rate, when there is a hell of a lot going on.
All Pilots are requested to check their gps functionality with GPSDUMP before competing.
To this end, a depository of information has been set up to try and make life a little easier for all concerned.
Of course, its useless unless pilots ask questions, and others answer… but hey!, what the hell. lets see what happens :-)
Results for round two are all now done and dusted and can be found on the results page here.
Richard Hunt has kindly taken all available igc files, given them a bit of a trim (we really dont want all the "retrieve" drives and other rubbish),
stuck them through a little prog of his, and kicked up some nice little google earth files that you might enjoy playing with.
you will find them here

Monday May 31st
Early start to get to the model ridge, maybe the only place flyable.
its a bit grey, but,,, we will see.
11:30 Briefing at 12:15. cloud base is only 100ft above the ridge. No records to be broken today then :-)
12:45 Race to anywhere! 35km for the club class and 60 km for the main class. Which could be interesting as cloud base is only a couple hundred ft above the top!
2:00pm Most are sitting on the hill for the cloud to lift a bit, will the sun come out to play??
3:00pm Many Gliders in the bottom landing field. many in the air. Some are still waiting. maybe 1 or 2 have got away.
6:00pm Task not activated, best was 11km. tomorrow looking particularly crap!
